From the minds that brought you the definitive Serenity Blueprints, a project of such staggering scope it took the combined talents of over a dozen researchers, designers and artists, plus those scientifically-minded types who kept correctin’ our work, two years to create.

Get ready. This is big. Really big. And The Verse will never be the same.

That’s all I’m sayin’… for now.

When we say that the movie version of Serenity is different than the TV version, it’s not just some of the details that are different, it’s also the amount of detail. Movie Serenity has about 100x more information in the 3D model, which, if you think about it, makes sense: The big screen has a lot more real estate to cover, so if you want your ship to look as convincing at 10 feet high as it did 10 inches high, you’re going to need a correspondingly more complex model (see engine comparison after the jump).

No where is all the additional detail more noticeable than in Serenity’s main engines. We’ve put this little animation together to show how the engine design evolved from the series to the movie. Not only did the shape of the engine change, but check out the extra detailing on the sides, around the front and even on the “turkey feathers”.

This is why it was so critical to get access to movie reference if we were to have any hope of making a screen-accurate replica. I know we’ve said it before, but it bears repeating here – thanks to Universal and Zoic for giving us fighting chance at doing Serenity justice.
