A bunch of you got it right, right away – in fact, the first person to answer did so at a level of detail I wasn’t expecting. So, in order to be fair, we’re going to award two prizes this week.

The answer we were looking for is that what’s pictured here is one of the two reactor skids that sit below and to either side of the reactor. However, in an effort to be all tricky-like, we only showed you a close-up of the engineering bay on the inside of the right skid (full-size image below; don’t forget to click on it to see it at max resolution). The first person to respond did, in fact, correctly identify the area pictured, even if they didn’t identify the entire assembly that section is part of.

As I said in the posting yesterday, this was a little bit of a trick question, because if you worked solely off the blueprints the skid itself is not labeled as such; only the engineering bay and manifold are called out. However, I probably wasn’t clear enough about what we were looking for. So, I’m declaring two Core-Techs winners: Mechamaniac was the first to accurately identify the engineering bay pictured and Jim in St. Louis was the first to identify the entire assembly as the reactor skid. So, you both get the prize! (By the way, the CMS that powers The Ship Works tracks time stamps for comments down to the second, so even if you don’t see who got in first, we do!)

Inside view of Serenity’s right-side reactor skid.

Thanks again to everyone who responded (and thanks to the previous winners who knew the answer, but were nice enough to keep it to themselves). Over the next couple of weeks we’re going to be spending a lot of time on the skids and gravity rotor, which it turns out were the most challenging part of the development effort to date. And this was a great way to kick off that discussion!

Well, yeah, I guess you are. Each time we run our “Name That Part” contest, we try to make it harder. And each time, well, let’s just say you’ve wasted no time in proving just how smart you are.

It’s been a while – too long by far – since we’ve Named That Part. So, rather than just doing our usual weekly show and tell, I thought we’d give you something to ponder, to identify and a shiny prize to win. Because, you know, we all really hate gettin’ free stuff, right?

As for the prize, I’m thinking with this week’s (we hope) harder clue, we need a bigger prize, right? Okay then. How about this: Whoever’s first to correctly guess the piece of Serenity you’re getting a peek at here, wins a set of Blue Sun Travel Posters – our own Adam Levermore-Rich’s best-selling poster set promoting the sites and sights of The ‘Verse. If you’ve already won a Name That Part contest, you’re not eligible this time around. Only fair to give some other folks a chance at a prize, right?

Below is a close-up on one section of the part were looking for you to identify. Good luck, and may the best Core-Tech win:

That’s the hump-like structure that sits on top of the reactor all the way to the back of Serenity.

So, with today’s update, we reveal the rest of the Reaction Control Tower in all it’s glory. After, of course, congratulating Micheal J. Welch, a frequent contributor to the FFSW’s article comments, for being the first to post the correct answer. Your Mal tags will be on their way shortly, Michael!

Meanwhile, I must hatch an even more nefarious plan to stump you FFSWers. Or maybe that should be FFSWites? Or Fireflies-on-the-wall? Or how about Kaylee’s Corps? Hmmm. Okay, before I hatch a more nefarious plan, we really need to come up with a nickname for FFSW regulars. Any suggestions?

With all the love the Cerberus has been getting this week (thanks, everyone, for your questions and feedback), I was beginning to feel a little guilty. I mean, we’re here to talk about Serenity, right? And while I love talking about the Big Dog, we should probably get back to the main event – at least until those wallpapers are ready (must… work… faster!)

And what better way to do just that than another installment of “Name That Part”?

The rules are simple: First person to accurately identify the piece of Serenity in the picture below wins the prize. Last time we did this it took all of 15 minutes before Darth Viper accurately Named That Part – you folks are just too sharp! So this time I’ve tried to come up with something a bit more challenging. We’ll have to see if I was successful.

We’ll let the contest run until Monday, or until someone Names That Part. And we’re going to let folks who haven’t won yet get a shot at the prize this week – sorry DV, but I promise we’ll open things up again to everyone in a future contest. Also, employees, contractors or close personal friends of QMx are excluded as well (sorry, Sean!)

And as for the prize – last time around we offered up Zoe’s dog tags, so how about a set Mal’s tags this week?

And here’s your clue:
